DR PATRICIA BARBER

Chartered Counselling Psychologist & Director

My Psychology Ireland was founded in 2022 by Dr Patricia Barber. Patricia is a HCPC registered Counselling Psychologist and a Chartered member of the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI). 

Patricia worked in Scotland for five years prior to moving back to Ireland where she worked within the NHS. In 2021 she opened her own practice in Galway City which has quickly expanded to My Psychology Ireland.

Across her career she has worked in a variety of mental health teams, including working within secondary and higher education colleges, third sector organisations and the National Health Service (NHS). Patricia is passionate about working with children and young people dealing with anxiety & depression. Patricia has worked extensively with individuals who have experienced trauma of various natures  and has a passion for providing evidence based psychological therapy to survivors of abuse. 

As a Counselling Psychologist Patricia is trained in Person Centred and Cognitive Behavioural therapy.  She also has experience working with parental alienation, reunification therapy and family based therapy.

DR MÉABH NÍ MAOLALAIDH

Senior Psychotherapist & Chartered Psychologist

 Associate in My Psychology Ireland.

Méabh has studied psychology for 12 years and worked as a

psychology researcher and lecturer for an additional 8 years. She

has also trained as a psychotherapist and worked as a mental

health practitioner, in schools, AWARE and Helplink. Méabh is

APCP registered Psychotherapist and Counsellor and Chartered

member of Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI).

Méabh practices evidence-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Person Centred Therapy that incorporates collaboration, solution-focus, education and strength-based

approaches. Méabh provides support to children, adolescents, and adults with a wide range of issues, such as anxiety, depression, anger, trauma, identity and grief.

She has specialized training in supporting neurodivergent people and people with identity ssues. Méabh does not offer formal clinical diagnoses to clients.

Brendan O'Connell

Chartered Senior Psychologist & Associate.

Brendan is a chartered counselling psychologist and in 2019 was made a Fellow of the Psychological Society of Ireland in recognition of his contribution to psychology within Irish Society.  Brendan has over twenty years clinical experience working in the public health sector.  He is an adjunct lecturer at the University of Galway within the doctoral training programme in clinical psychology since 2007.  Brendan also leads on in-service training programmes for psychologists within the public sector and has been an invited speaker at the American Psychological Society and at Tedx events.  He has a life long commitment to increasing access to evidence based therapies.  Brendan has expertise in assessment, formulation and intervention with a broad range of mental health issues.  These include:mood and anxiety; the impact of trauma; psychosis; and personality disturbance.  His work affirms LGBT+ and neurodiverse identities and communities.   Brendan currently works with adult clients at My Psychology.

Catherine Rice

Counselling Psychologist & Associate

Catherine is a Counselling Psychologist with over eight years of comprehensive training and experience. She holds a doctorate in Counselling Psychology from Trinity College Dublin and has worked with a wide range of clients, from children to older adults, in various settings, including the HSE, TCD Student Counselling Service, Jigsaw, and several voluntary mental health and disability services.

 

Catherine is trained in multiple psychological approaches, including Person-Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), and Psychodynamic Therapy. She works in an integrative way, meaning she combines different psychological theories and techniques to suit the unique needs of each person. Her therapeutic approach is strongly grounded in person-centred and psychodynamic theory. This means she believes in the importance of building a trusting, collaborative relationship with each client and takes the time to understand their unique experiences. Through this approach, she explores how past relationships and experiences influence current thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, helping clients gain insight, make sense of challenges in their lives, and work toward meaningful change.

 

Catherine works with a wide range of mental health challenges, providing compassionate support for issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, relationship difficulties, trauma, low self-esteem, and more. She also helps clients navigate life transitions, manage overwhelming emotions, and cope with everyday stressors. As a member of the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI), Catherine is committed to upholding the highest standards of professional ethics and ongoing learning. She currently works with adult clients at My Psychology Ireland.

Abidemi Samuel

Counselling Psychologist & Associate

Abidemi Samuel (Abby) is a compassionate and experienced Counselling Psychologist accredited by the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI). She holds a Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology from Trinity College Dublin, a Master’s in Forensic Psychology from Coventry University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Dublin Business

School.

 

Abby’s integrative therapeutic approach combines person-centred, psychodynamic, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques. This allows her to tailor the therapy to

each client’s unique needs, providing a supportive and non-judgmental space where clients can explore their struggles with empathy and understanding. Abby places a strong emphasis on the therapeutic relationship, believing that developing a meaningful therapeutic alliance between therapist and client is central to the therapeutic process.

Abby has extensive experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families facing a wide range of challenges, including mood disorders, depression, anxiety, trauma, low self-esteem, self-harm, stress, relationship difficulties, grief, and more.

 

She is particularly mindful of the importance of cultural considerations, including race, religion, age, disability, and sexuality, ensuring an inclusive and respectful environment for all. Her practice deeply values individual differences, honesty, and integrity. Abby is dedicated to empowering her clients to gain self-awareness, foster self-compassion, and discover their own answers. Dr Komal Hamid

Chartered Senior Clinical Psychologist & Associate

I am a Chartered Senior Clinical Psychologist with more than 9 years’ experience offering clinical services in hospital, private practice and organisational contexts. I have worked with a wide range of individuals across different age groups, addressing various psychological, health related, emotional and interpersonal difficulties. 

 

I have specialised in short and long term psychotherapy using an integrative approach tailored to meet each client's individual needs. My goal is to support clients to explore the complexities of their internal world, and to gain an understanding of and find relief from distressing feelings, thoughts, behaviours and interpersonal difficulties. Painful feelings and problems are part of being alive. My aim is to address the pain, grief and growth that result from problems and help them to understand how they have arrived, where they are today, and how to make changes for the better.

Katie Cullen 

Clinical Psychologist

Katie is a Clinical Psychologist with over 9 years of comprehensive training and experience. She holds a BA in Psychology from University College Dublin, a MSc in Health Psychology from the National University of Ireland, Galway and has completed a Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from University College Cork.

Katie has extensive experience of working with clients across the lifespan, including children, adolescents, adults and older adults. Katie is skilled in assessing and developing collaborative formulations with a wide variety of mental health presentations, and is passionate about delivering evidenced based interventions which aim to support clients to reach their goals and make sense of their unique life experiences.

Katie has previously provided support to clients presenting with a variety of needs, including a range of mood and anxiety disorders (including depression, anxiety, OCD, panic disorder), relationship and psycho-sexual difficulties, individuals experiencing suicidal ideation or engaging in self-harm, individuals living with chronic illnesses or individuals adjusting to new diagnoses, including neurodevelopmental conditions such as Autism and ADHD. Katie endorses a neuroaffirmative approach in her work. Katie also works with clients who may be

experiencing difficulty navigating life transitions and adjustments.

Katie is trained in numerous therapeutic modalities including but not limited to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. She oftentimes also uses an integrative approach when completing interventions to tailor treatments to each clients unique needs and goals. Katie’s adaptability allows her to meet her clients where they are, combining techniques to support individuals best in achieving their desired outcomes and facilitate meaningful change.

Katie’s prior experience spans various settings, including community mental health centres (e.g. adult and child HSE services) and hospital settings. She adopts a warm, empathetic and compassionate approach in her work and strives to ensure her clients feel heard, understood and empowered to overcome their difficulties through their work with her.

Martin Browne

Integrative Psychotherapist & Associate

Martin is a Person-Centred psychotherapist, who is also informed by the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and the Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT) approaches to psychotherapy. 

Martin completed a masters in Counselling and Psychotherapy and holds a BSc in Psychology and an MSc in Health Psychology.

Amongst a variety of others groups of people, Martin has a particular interest in working with University aged individuals and the associated challenges that can arise.

As part of his career to date he has worked in the University of Limerick and the Atlantic Technological University, helping students to overcome various issues that can emerge around college life such as anxiety, low mood, identity, relationship issues, the impact of trauma, and more.

He works to build a strong therapeutic relationship with clients to help change to occur. Martin works with clients in an informed and transparent manner.

Martin is a pre-accredited psychotherapist with the Association of Professional Counsellors & Psychotherapists in Ireland (APCP), and is a graduate member of the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI), and works with mild-moderate adult presentations.

 

Martin is unable to offer formal clinical diagnoses to clients.

Deirdre Ferriter

CBT Therapist & Associate

Deirdre is a CBT and Person-Centred therapist, working online. 

She completed a Pgdip in Counselling and Psychotherapy (CBT). She holds a degree in Psychology and an MSc in Health Psychology. She is a qualified yoga teacher and has a particular interest in the body/mind connection.

She has over 5 years experience working in various support roles, including services for people with Autism, ID and most recently in the domestic violence sector.

She works collaboratively with clients, building a strong therapeutic relationship to enable meaningful change in their lives.

Deirdre is a pre accredited therapist with the NAPCP & works with mild-moderate presentations.

My name is Jennifer. I am originally from Roscommon.

 

I have worked in customer service in retail prior to completing a HND in business in Belfast metropolitan college from September 2009 until May 2011. I then went on to further my education in GMIT in september 2011 and graduated with a business degree in 2014.

 

I previously worked in a private practice for 7 years for a busy multi-disciplinary team including clinical psychology and physiotherapy where I was responsible for the smooth running of the centre which involves excellent customer service and administration.

 

In my spare time I like reading and going for walks.
