Why Get an Adult ADHD Assessment?
Many adults live for years without a diagnosis, struggling with symptoms such as:
-
Difficulty focusing or paying attention
-
Disorganisation and time management problems
-
Forgetfulness and feeling overwhelmed
-
Impulsivity or restlessness
-
Challenges with work, relationships, or daily life

"One of my biggest frustrations with traditional assessments is how easily they can lose sight of the whole person while focusing on a single element. That’s why, at My Psychology Ireland, our adult ADHD and Autism assessments are designed to focus on all of you.
Our clinicians only take on a limited number of assessments each year, so we don’t get burnt out and can truly get to know each individual. We recognise that everyone’s needs are different—some people will have support joining them, others won’t; some can manage two-hour appointments, while others need breaks or time to reflect on questions. Our approach is more than a yes or no—it’s tailored recommendations, interventions, and strategies designed around you and your life."

What Does an Adult ADHD Assessment Involve?
Step 1 – Screening Questionnaires
After booking your assessment, we’ll email you a set of ADHD screener questionnaires to complete. These provide valuable information about your symptoms and why you’re seeking an assessment.
-
Your psychologist will review these forms carefully.
-
Sometimes, the results suggest that you may or may not need a full ADHD assessment, and your psychologist will discuss this with you.
-
We may also send additional questionnaires. This is because ADHD symptoms can overlap with other mental health conditions, and it’s important for us to check for co-occurring or alternative diagnoses.
Step 2 – Assessment Appointments
You’ll then be invited to attend two assessment sessions, each lasting up to two hours, either online or in person. We also request an informant interview (such as a family member or partner) for about one hour, which can be done online or in person.
At the end of these sessions, your psychologist will be able to give you a verbal indication of whether you meet the criteria for an ADHD diagnosis.
Step 3 – Your ADHD Report & Recommendations
If you wish, you’ll receive a detailed written report summarising the assessment findings, along with personalised recommendations and strategies to help manage ADHD symptoms.

You’ll receive this report before a follow-up discussion, so that you have time to review it and ask any questions.
