Frequently Asked Questions – Therapy for Children
How do I make an appointment?
To book an appointment, complete our intake form here or contact our office. Our intake form asks you questions on why you are seeking an appointment, previous experiences of therapy & gathers general contact information.
Which therapist should I see?
Our psychologists and psychotherapists have some information about their training and experience available here. When you complete our intake form it is reviewed by the clinic director Dr Patricia Barber.
The intake form asks if you have a preference for a psychologist or if you would prefer to be seen by a male or female therapist. Based on the information you provide Dr Barber will advise which members of the team are best suited to work with you & their availability. We then contact you offering you the chance to engage with the therapist you prefer.
How often will my child attend appointments?
This can be discussed in your first appointment with your therapist. For some clients they attend weekly or fortnightly sessions. Sessions can be spaced further apart but this is generally discussed in consultation with your therapist.
How much are appointments?
Our appointments are billed at the following rates:
-
Senior Chartered Psychologists - €150.00 per session
-
Chartered Psychologist - €150.00 for initial appointments, €120.00 for follow up appointments
-
Psychotherapists - €70.00
Can I claim for appointments with my insurance?
Our psychologists are all Chartered members with the Psychological Society of Ireland. When you pay for an appointment you receive a receipt with the membership number of your therapist.
This can then be submitted to your insurance provider to claim for your appointments. The amount you can claim is based on your plan and we advise you to speak directly to your provider if you are unsure if appointments are covered.
Will I know what my child discusses in therapy? Do I get any feedback from the therapist?
Sessions between the therapist and child are confidential and the therapist will not disclose information discussed in the session with you unless they have consent from your child.
The only exception to this is if the therapist feels the child may be at risk of harm. In this instance you will be contacted immediately. Our therapists offer parental feedback and review sessions periodically to support your child's wellbeing.
