Working with our Assistant Psychologists
At My Psychology Ireland we understand how difficult it can feel when you or your child are struggling and support is not easily accessible. As part of our commitment to increasing access to psychological support, we offer appointments with Assistant Psychologists (APs) for children and adults.
Our Assistant Psychologists work as valued members of our clinical team and provide structured psychological support under the supervision of an experienced psychologist.
What is an Assistant Psychologist?
Assistant Psychologists are psychology graduates who have completed undergraduate and often postgraduate training in psychology. Many are working toward further professional training in clinical, counselling or educational psychology and have experience supporting children, adults, and families in a range of settings.
At My Psychology Ireland, Assistant Psychologists work within clearly defined areas of practice and receive ongoing supervision to support the delivery of safe, ethical, and evidence-based care.
How does the service work?
Our Assistant Psychologists provide structured 1:1 support for children and adults experiencing mild to moderate emotional or behavioural difficulties. Sessions are tailored to the individual and may focus on areas such as:
* Anxiety and worries
* Emotional regulation
* Confidence and self-esteem
* School-related stress
* OCD
* Low mood
* Stress
* Managing transitions
Support with an Assistant Psychologist is offered in a structured block of up to 12 sessions. The aim of this model is to provide focused, goal-oriented support while helping you access psychological intervention in a timely way.
Sessions are delivered within a structured support plan and are overseen by a supervising psychologist.
Supervision and Clinical Oversight
All work completed by our Assistant Psychologists is closely supervised by an experienced psychologist. This includes regular clinical supervision, case discussion, and ongoing support to ensure high standards of care are maintained.
If your needs are identified as requiring more specialist or intensive support, recommendations and appropriate onward support options will be discussed.

Is this service suitable for my me/child?
This service may be appropriate for children and young people who would benefit from supportive psychological intervention for mild to moderate difficulties.
Following an initial consultation or review of referral information, we will consider whether support with an Assistant Psychologist is the most appropriate option for your child’s needs.
Appointment Fees
Appointments with an Assistant Psychologist are provided within a structured support model of up to 12 sessions. Sessions are paid for at the time of booking and prior to each appointment.
The number of sessions offered will depend on clinical need and presentation. While some children and young people may not require the full 12 sessions, appointments beyond this support block would only be offered where clinically indicated and appropriate.
Our Assistant Psychologist service is designed to provide structured, evidence-informed psychological support with ongoing clinical supervision and oversight from an experienced psychologist. This model helps increase timely access to support for children, young people, and families while maintaining high standards of care.
